The Battersea Summer Scheme
The Panel provides funds to enable the Scheme to employ a part-time administrator and also covers all office expenses so that 100% of their in-house fundraising goes to providing activities and events for disadvantaged young people.
The Battersea Summer Scheme has been organising trips, outings, and events for under-privileged young people since 1992, especially those living in the poorer and more deprived areas of Battersea and Balham.
They work with local youth groups, Wandsworth Borough Council youth services and youth offending teams.
The activities are aimed at taking young people away from the security of their home
environment to gain new and different experiences where, by necessity, they learn to
interact with their peers AND leaders. These are adventures; the young people do join in
and benefit from their adventures and more importantly, they are occupied, free from
boredom and all the troubles that arise from this. lt is an ideal way to develop their self-
esteem and to leam new personal skills, and so become better individuals.
Activities include various action packed day trips to challenging and interesting destinations. Outward bound type residential courses with a diverse range of activities under expert supervision and sporting events including the annual Sport in the Park – a four day event for young people to try new sports and challenging activities complemented by a diverse range of workshops.
